Training Provider Accreditation Made Simple
Applying for accreditation as a training provider with the South African Police Service (SAPS) is crucial for organizations aiming to offer professional firearms training. This accreditation ensures that your training programs comply with the stringent standards set by the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000, promoting safety and competence. In this blog, we will guide you through the detailed process of applying for accreditation, highlighting the necessary steps and supporting documents required. Whether you are establishing a new training institute or seeking re-accreditation, this comprehensive guide will help you navigate the process with confidence.
Steps to Achieve Accreditation:
Step 1: Understand the Regulations
Familiarize yourself with the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. This will help you comprehend the standards required for accreditation.
Step 2: Gather Your Documents
Prepare the following essential documents:
- Completed SAPS 519(a) form.
- Comprehensive Motivation.
- Proof of Payment (obtained after application submission and fee payment at the Local Police Station).
- Proof of Legal Entity (CIPC documents).
- Appointment Letter of the Responsible Person.
- Certified Identity Document of the Responsible Person.
- Certified Identity Documents of the Director(s) of the Legal Entity.
- Code of Conduct signed by the Responsible Person.
- Two sets of Fingerprints of the Responsible Person.
- Certified Proof of PFTC Accreditation.
- Certified Training Certification Register.
- Sample Certificate to be issued to students (Certified).
- Necessary Undertakings.
- Detailed Description of Security Measures.
- Qualifications of the Responsible Person(Limited to Training Related Proficiency Certificates e.g. Supervise Firearm Training, Conduct Outcomes Based Assessments etc. Competency Certificates as well but kindly refrain from submitting unnecessary documents such as your CV, National Diplomas or Degrees with no relevance to firearm training)
Step 3: Submit Your Application
Submit the completed form and all required documents to the SAPS office. Ensure you keep copies of everything for your records.
Step 4: Schedule and Pass Inspection
The Designated Firearms Officer (DFO) must inspect your training site to verify your facilities. Ensure everything is in order and schedule the inspection when submitting your documents. Be proactive in scheduling the inspection as delays can occur if the inspection is not completed, which can hold up your application.
Step 5: Await Approval
Once the Registrar receives your application and all relevant information, they will review it. You will be informed whether your application is approved. If additional information is required, provide it promptly. Upon approval, you will receive your accreditation certificate.
Conclusion
Successfully obtaining accreditation from the SAPS requires meticulous preparation and a thorough understanding of the necessary documentation. Adhering to the guidelines and ensuring compliance with the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 are key to a smooth application process.
